Dance according to Mercedes Boronat

From a background in strict technical training, Mercedes Boronat has felt the imperative need to break with the rigid mere formalities that put contemporary dance into a corset, and so often turn it into a sheer exhibition of technique without content.

As a creator, Boronat avoids virtuosism for virtuosism's sake, and starting from the creative impulse, achieves the expression of emotions, moods and human feelings, from euphoria to deception, from aplomb and the pure control of oneself to insecurity and fear, from shyness to expansiveness, from the desire to overcome adversities to the ironic acceptance of the inexorable.

This need is the vertebrator element of each creation, which implies having as a starting point the creative impulse to give it the corresponding shape, and to avoid stereotypes, always looking for the naturality of movement.

Boronat’s personal world has a relationship with fine art, her aesthetic references are pictoric and photographical; she concieves dance from its most visual aspect.
